Taegeukdang

7 Dongho-ro 24-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul

Since 1946

Taegeukdang opened in Myeong-dong in 1946 and moved to Jangchung-dong in 1973. It opened just after liberation and is often called the oldest bakery in Seoul still operating at its original site. Its current building went up in 1974. Through the 1970s, the bakery was a favorite meeting spot for students and office workers, and it grew to as many as ten locations. When the aging building was renovated in 2015, the district’s approval required it to keep the original exterior colors and sign lettering. The bakery still looks the way generations of customers remember it.
